Summary: | Research question for this final project is how the utilization of Simone 3.0 could assisting the decision-making process in terms of analyzing the performance of Wall's Ice Cream's supply chain system, in order to formulate the suitable strategy in fulfilling the
upcoming rise of ice cream's market demand in the future. The issue came up based on the increasing of ice cream sales up to 19% in 2007 and predicted will continue to rise up in the next coming year. Meanwhile as the only ice cream product in PT. Unilever Indonesia Tbk. for food and ice cream category, Wall’s has been targeted to fulfil the ice cream demand in Indonesia which significantly increase in these several years. In 2008 Unilever International Sourcing Group introduce SIMONE 3.0 as a strategic tools based on Microsoft Excel, which assume could help planner in analyzing the performance of supply chain system of a product that have such high seasonality demand, like ice cream.

Based on this background, the final task research will carry out the fitness test for the utilization proposal of SIMONE 3.0, by using the software on Unilever’s supply chain system.

Indicators for this fitness test are adapted from strategic decision theory by Byron J. Finch in Strategic Decision and Operation topic. This final task research have five conclusion,(a) the output from SIMONE 3.0 only described per production line and group product, meanwhile in each of those group product there are also some Wall’s Ice Cream products. (b) Before running the simulation, the entry data should be adjust first therefore it could match with SIMONE 3.0 requirements. (c) SIMONE 3.0 tend to help the analyzing of long-term strategic decision, meanwhile the resulted data are still not specific and adequate for daily decision which needed by planner at Unilever. (d) Unilever could use SIMONE 3.0 anytime and could try to obtain a better result from this simulation with number of replication as expected. (e) Unilever could make best use of SIMONE 3.0 if the cost factor is put into the simulation.

My thesis also gives five recommendations related to the implementation of SIMONE 3.0 namely, (a) data flow used as input in simulation shall be described more clearly by developing specific table for respective table, (b) SIMONE 3.0 user is supply management of PT Unilever Indonesia Tbk that really has full access to the required data and also need the information resulted from the simulation, (c) simulation should be conducted at the end of year since actual data demand from January to December is available and has been scheduled at certain time and has been agreed by planner in order to avoid disturbance to his routine or main jobs and (d) manual book need to established in which in this manual consist of the guidelines how to use it, what kind of data needed, and what is the output, and (e) before

implement SIMONE 3.0 the company should make a training in order to have the same perception between all user, to make easier in coordinating and using the simulation in time, to avoid error during input the data, and in order to reach time efficiency. |
