Summary: | In wireless communication, multipath frequency selective fading is a channel condition which very disturb communication process. To face this condition, several techniques had been created, and among them are multi-antenna system and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) usage. This final project analyzed the performance of SISO, SISO-OFDM, MISO(2x1)-OFDM, and MIMO(2x2)-OFDM system in an AWGN, Rayleigh distributed singlepath flat fading, and multipath frequency selective fading channel, which use channel model SUI-3 as a standard. It also analyzed the effect of BPSK, QPSK, QAM-16, and QAM-64 modulation technique usage onto systems simulation.
This final project used MATLAB R2008b to do the simulation, which have the result in a form of BER vs SNR graphic, of systems described above. OFDM parameter that used in this final project refers to WiMAX/IEEE 802.16d standard known as fixed WiMAX. Space-Time Block Coding (STBC) technique is used in MISO and MIMO system.
Based on the performance and the result of simulation, it is concluded that a system with OFDM technique usage have a better performance than system without OFDM. And it’s concluded that system’s performance under AWGN channel is better than system’s performance under fading channel. The result of simulation proved that adding more antenna to the system will ameliorate the system’s performance under channel disturbance. In this case, MIMO-OFDM is the best method to overcome channel condition compared with the performance of MISO-OFDM and SISO-OFDM. It is also concluded that using a BPSK and QPSK modulation mapping onto system produce better performance than using a QAM-16 and QAM-64. |
