Summary: | The purpose of triaxial test is to determine mechanical characteristics of rocks in triaxial loading condition through the equation of rock failure criteria. These mechanical characteristics are very useful for choosing parameters of mine design and some of mining activities, such as tunneling, drilling, blasting, etc. The conventional-triaxial test has some disadvantages, for example it needs many rock samples in each test. Thus, will cost alot of money and time for preparation. Some of scientists (i.e. Kovari & Tisa , 1975; Kim & Ko, 1979; Crawford & Wylie, 1987; dan Pagoulatos, 2004), suggest multistage-triaxial test to solve the problems occur on conventional-triaxial test. They also explain that multistagetriaxial method is effective to determine rock failure criteria and mechanical characteristic of rock, because it only needs one sample of rock and has equivalent result to conventional-triaxial test.<p>In this research, limestone is being tested with conventional and multistage method. based on evaluation using rock failure criteria of Mohr-Coulomb, Hoek-Brown, Bieniawski I and II, In general prove that multistage triaxial testing method is able to be an efficient approach to determining failure criterion of limestone. |
