Description
Summary:Shell and tube heat exchanger for after cooler that use to compressed air cooling at 123.3 oc and 8.55 bar to 37.8 oc has been designed. The design was made to improve existing after cooler design which has high fouling rate in the shell side. Corrected design by reversed cooling water side flows into tube side and compressed air in the shell side. As the new design of side flows, we expect fouling cleaning is easy to do. The design also gives faster flow in order to reduce fouling. To completing compressed air cooling process, three identical shell and tube heat exchanger were designed and operate in parallel configurations. The design has 3/8 inch tube diameter, 3 m length of tubes, 16 inch shell diameter and 0.91 m/s tube side velocity. Numerical analysis using CFD is used in this design to show pressure, velocity and temperature distribution inside the heat exchanger.
