Description
Summary:The previous research shown that the products relevance carried out by participant of competence based training program was low, i.e. machining product resulted through

machinery practice activity have not get a clearance on its function structure. This fact caused their product not only can not be used directly but also can not be optimally

production function. Furthermore, the products can not give added value but exactly lowering its value.

The aim of this research was to design of machining product with its unit cost calculation. The designed product can be applied in machinery practice activity on competence based production training program in education and training institution. The designed product‘s process types can be used to help the participant to reach their competence and to increasing its function, until it can be sold and will give the added value.

Description method was used in this research. Data were collected through literature study, observation, and experiment. Production time element was limited by the cutting time, non productive/auxiliary time, and tool changing time. Time cutting data were resulted from machining process planning and analyzing. Two element time data, i.e. non productive time data and tool changing time data were found trough man-machine system analyze on the product model production trial that carried out by operator. The non productive/auxiliary time data consist of time loading the work piece, advancing time, retracting time, time for unloading the work piece, and time for prepare the machine, fixture and attachment. Unit cost element was limited by the material cost, machining

cost, and tool cost. The material cost was limited by purchase cost and storage cost.

Machining cost was calculated base on total machining time and machine operation cost. Tool cost element was calculated base on data of decreasing tool life cause cutting process, i.e. ratio form effective cutting time with tool life. Design of machining product model for conventional lathe machine was resulted trough this research. It would be able to be applied on competence based production training program, especially for help the training participant reach their competencies on work

with lathe machine competence. Product model had function as panel of door handle, made from Aluminum alloy and consists of six parts. Machining process type to produce

the product model consist of facing, shoulder facing, straight turning, grooving/necking, tapering, external threading, cutting/parting, drilling, boring, reaming, and knurling, but internal threading and internal tapering was not included. Based on machining process planning and analyzing and product model production trial, it was resulted the production time and unit cost of the product model. Total machining time of product model was 191.1 minutes that consist of 24.27, 165.46, and 1.36 minute

respectively for cutting time, non productive/auxiliary time, and tool changing time that related with tool life. The count of production cost resulted the unit cost was

Rp 31,667.77 that consist of Rp 22,292.63, Rp 9,253.32, and Rp 120.34 respectively for material cost, machining cost, and tool cost.
