Therefore, nylons are widely used for example in the production of fibers or products made of engineering plastics. Synthesis of nylons in industry by traditional reactions involve high temperature that can lead to thermal degradation of <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> nylons. On the other hand, milder reaction conditions can be achieved via enzymatic polymerization. In this research, the synthesis of nylon-4,10, nylon-6,10, and nylon-8,10 was performed via polycondensation of diamines (1,4-diaminobutane, 1,6 diaminohexane, and 1,8-diaminooctane) and diester (diethyl sebacate). These <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> reactions were catalyzed by immobilized (on Lewatit beads) cutinase from Fusarium solani pisi, cutinase in a form of cross-linked enzyme aggregates (CLEA), and by immobilized Lipase B from Candida antarctica (CAL B). The synthesis were performed in one-step reaction (atmospheric pressure) and two-step reaction (reduced pressure). The synthesized nylons were characterized by Attenuated Total Reflection- <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Fourier Transform Infrared (ATR FT-IR), proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1HNMR), matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight mass spectra <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> (MALDI-ToF MS), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) measurements. All tested enzymes shows selectivity for long chain diamines substrates (C8 > C6 > C4). The highest DPmax (DPmax = 16) is obtained for nylon-8,10 catalyzed by cutinase as CLEA in two-step reaction. The synthesized nylon-8,10 has a Tm = 138.58 oC and a degradation temperature is 300 oC. text
