Description
Summary:According to 2008th Indonesian Health Profile from Ministry of Health, there is an increment of heart disease patients. This causes needs of earlier diagnosis of heart disease also increase. To provide early diagnosis, a specific electrocardiograph (ECG) for arrhythmia can be used. The ECG used follows a standard 12 leads on 0.5 – 150 Hz bandwidth. The leads are 3 limb leads, 3 augmented leads, and 6 precordial leads.

In Indonesia, standard 12 leads ECG for arrhythmia diagnosis purpose is not yet well developed and still depends on imported, high cost ECG. Therefore, in this Final Assignment, design and implementation of 12 leads ECG system prototype are made. This prototype can be used as front-end module to a previously developed software of arrhythmia interpretation. The ECG functions to measure and display electrocardiogram signal of a patient simultaneously 12 leads 12 channels on PC. Collected data will be functioned as input to the interpreter software.

The designed ECG consists of several subsystems as following: buffer, instrumentation amplifier, Wilson Central Terminal and Driven Right Leg circuit, analog filters, second stage amplifier, multiplexer, 12 bit ADC, and microcontroller. As for supply, an isolated power supply which also guarantees patient’s safety from electrical leaks is used. USB connection is used as interface to PC. This ECG has sampling rate of 250 samples per second to meet the needs of interfacing to the arrhythmia interpretation software.

From several tests to the prototype, it has been concluded that the ECG has been able to measure 12 leads of electrocardiogram and display it simultaneously 12 channels and real time on PC. Moreover, data of measurement results have been able to be interpreted on the arrhythmia interpretation software. For the future, it needs some developments as following: better noise reduction, the use of digital filter, and the application of wireless communication between ECG module and PC.
