Monodispersed silica is usually produced by simple synthesize Stober Process. Because the poorly reproducibility in Stober process, chitosan was choosen as dispersant to control the size and distribution of silica particle. Furthermore chitosan have a good biocompatibiliy, good interaction with silicate oligomers and have been applied in many sectors such as pharmaceutical, biomaterials and food industry. Chitosan concentration selected as parameter process are 0.1%, 0.3%, and 0.5%. Tetraethyl Orthosilicate (TEOS) used as silica source. Characterization was done by SEM, FTIR and BET to determine microstructure, functional groups and specific surface area. From the results, the optimum chitosan concentration for drug delivery system is about 0.1%.Resulting silica particle diameter is 92.388 nm with specific surface area of 44.481 m2/g. The more chitosan concentration added to colloidal solution, silica particle tends to agglomerate more. The smallest silica particle is obtained at 0.5% with diameter 72.15 nm with specific surface areaof 85.692 m2/g. The average radius pore size from all samples varies between 12-13 Angstrom which belongs to mesoporous material. text |
