Description
Summary:Indonesia has very strong pontency in SME, especially in the food industry which has reached 780,000 in 2009. Large numbers of food industries are not followed by their export value, which are still deficit to import value. This is due to the Indonesian products are not able to compete with foreign food products in global

market. Packaging can be a key element in added value. In order to improve the competitiveness of SME products, Indonesian government provides assistance in the field of packaging through packaging house. Packaging house requires packaging technology to support its activities. Appropriate technology selection is important in the packaging process. Incorrect selection will make technology becoming useless or not able to provide an added value. Technology selection model that fit with real system is needed.

This paper presents technology selection model that can be used in technology selection. In proposed approach, integration of Brown Gibson Model, ANP and fuzzy theory is applied. There will be financial and nonfinancial factors used in the selection of technology. Fuzzy present value is used for assessment in financial factors while the fuzzy ANP is used for assessment of non-financial factors. Brown Gibson model is used to measure each technology score using finansial and non financial factors.

A case study of technology selection for packaging technology is presented to show the practical applicability of the model. Application of the model is to select among three alternatives of packaging technologies, which are stand-up pouch, gusseted, and center seal (pillow). Using ten criteria in non financial factors, the second alternative (gusseted) was seleceted as “the best technology” with TPM : 0.390.
