Description
Summary:This final project contain a design to dry cartons made by the usage of processed waste product. Currently, the product's drying process is conducted manually by spreading it under the sunshine. The drying process would normally be fast whenever enough sunbeams are available. On the contrary, the process will be very slow and the timing will be unpredictable whenever the weather is cloudy or raining, thus creating a need for a mechanical drying system. The company currently owns 10 operating carton-creator machines, each with theability to produce 1.5 tons of cartons (in wet condition) in 1 day (8 hours of work).

The model for drying cartons must be pretested in the laboratory to acquire the characteristics of drying cartons system. The drying speed, dryer temperature, and also the dryer's flow rate are to be studied during the testing.

The result will be used in designing the proposed dryer machine.

The drying machine proposed measuresare 30 m x 10.8 m x 7.5 m. The machine will be equipped with three fans, and rectangle ducts to flow hot air, 3 plenums, and 6 cabins. The debit of hot air that is flowed for drying cartons is

35325.54 CMH. This drying machine is designed to have the capacity to dry 15 tons of cartons (in wet condition) and the time to dry as much as 8 hours per day. The heat needed to supply the air used for drying is 730.09kJ/s. The benefit attained from this design is an effective carton dryer system that is unaffected by weather condition.
