Summary: | This final project describes about design, production, and testing of a prototype of 1000 liters Salt-Gradient Solar Pond (SGSP). SGSP become an alternative solution to keep the solar energy other than hot water tank, stones, and phase change material, by using salt because of the practicability in production as well as easier in operation. In this final project, a prototype SGSP was made using a 1000 liters polyethelene tank having 1.2 m in height and 1.2 m in diameter. The tank was insulated using 10 cm thick of glasswool, packed with plastic and covered by an aluminium foil. Testing of SGSP was carried-out on the top of the Surya Laboratory FTMD ITB during 14 days. The temperature was measured everyday from 8 am until 5

pm at several locations in vertical direction and also density was measured once a week.
The experimental result was compared to the results obtained from theoretical prediction using 1-D model. Although experimental result is still different, but both

results have the same tendency curve. By doing further studies from theoretical and experimental aspect, the result is expected to be better and SGSP can be built in a
larger scale. |
