In ad-hoc wireless networks, network performance is strongly influenced by the Medium Access Control protocol (MAC). There are several problems encountered in the layer on top of it sourced from the MAC layer. One of the phenomena that occur due to MAC protocol problems that perceived by TCP layer is TCP unfairness.

TCP unfairness is a phenomena of throughput inequality perceived by one or more traffic that flows in wireless ad-hoc network. This will affect the successful rate of a message sent to recipient so that affect on the performance of data transmission. This final project explores the phenomenon of TCP unfairness on an adhoc wireless network. Measurement of TCP unfairness conducted on a testbed of ad-hoc wireless networks and use different scenarios by varying the distance between nodes and TCP Maximum Segment Size (MSS). As a comparison, the testbed is also performed unfairness measurement using UDP traffic. From the results of measurements, several scenarios showed significant

symptoms of TCP unfairness. On the other hand, it did not reveal any signs of significant unfairness on UDP traffic. Besides that, this research also prove that TCP unfairness is getting worse along the increasing of traffic in the network. text
