Summary:Hand lay up is one of the manufacturing methods to produce composite materials. The research about composite material with manufacturing method has been done for several years. The research which done by the writer is about sandwich composite with manufacturing method. Sandwich composite has some special quality compare to conventional material such as lighter and quite stronger. Although sandwich composite has some disadvantages, it is quite good to applicate in many kind of structural design. In this research, bamboo composite is used as face, Ocroma Garnivora or balsa is used as core, and epoxy resin as matrix. After having good specimens for testing, then they were tested by three <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> point bending test. Sandwich composite using flat type bamboo fibre has average maximum modulus elastic about 1307.77 MPa, average maximum normal stress about 19.79 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> MPa, and average maximum shear stress about 2.14 MPa. Sandwich composite using thin rib type bamboo fibre has average maximum modulus elastic about 1507.95 MPa, average maximum normal stress about 24.78 MPa, and average maximum shear stress about 1.63 MPa. Failure that occurs is shear on the core of composite sandwich material. Delamination between core and face is not found.
