The needs to build suction dredger based on reverse engineering method has placed the reference design analysis in a crucial step to adjust the ship design to its utilization. <br /> <br /> <br /> Two aspects of ship design analysis are ship stability and structure strength. Ship initial stability depends on the position of its center of gravity and buoyancy. A ship is possessed of stable equilibrium criteria when at a certain angle its weight and buoyancy force can produce the righting moment that able to turn ship position back into the normal position. Besides that, a ship must obey the safety policy of dredger that presupposes 50 cm minimum freeboard. In the other hand, strength analysis is focused to analyze structure strength of ladder as a support structure of suction. <br /> <br /> <br /> The analysis result shows that KIP’s design is appropriate to stable equilibrium criteria; however its freeboard doesn’t meet a demand of dredger safety policy until pontoon addition is executed. The addition a number of pontoons along with its position arrangement, finally, will yield the satisfying freeboard result. <br /> <br /> <br /> The utilizing of modeling analysis software, which based on finite element method, produces stress output of ladder structure with 1.5 of minimum safety factor. A demand to produce 2 of minimum safety factor makes ladder modification compulsory at the next step. Thus, structure addition and reposition are able to create eligible ladder design alternatives. text
