PENGARUH LINGKUNGAN TERHADAP PERKEMBANGAN KOLONI LEBAH MADU,APIS CERANA FABR. (HYMENOPTERA : APIDAE)

A study about environmental effect upon the development of honey bee colony in the Pagerwangi Dago area has been conducted. The parameters which were observed consisted of the land use around the observation area saat 3 km radii, the development of honey bee (indicated by the number of eggs, larvae...

The parameters which were observed consisted of the land use around the observation area saat 3 km radii, the development of honey bee (indicated by the number of eggs, larvae and pupae), the quantity of honey and pollen in the comb, and kinds of honeybee plants in the observation area. A number of 25 colonies were observed, and the number of the colony was recorded every month. Kinds of bee forage plants were recorded by survey method, as well as analysis on vegetation as bee forage plants, around the research centre at 500 radii.
The observation showed that the land use in the observation area at 3 km radii consisted of forest and bushes, village and plantations, with percentation of each category ± 3,19 km2
(11,27%), 1,6 km 2 (5,7 %),23,47 km2 (83,05 %), respectively. The bee forage plants observed
around 3 km radii consisted of 64 species, with 30 families. The result of vegetation analysis at 500 radii showed three dominant bee
forage plants species for each category, they are banana (Musa paradisiaca) with IV (important Value) 103,40 % , corn (Zea mays) with IV 65,44 % and babadotan (Ageratum conyzoides) with IV 64,45 %. The number of colony decreased more than 50% during 9 months from October 1999 to June 2000, with the result as followed : (1) 12
colonies survived; (2) 12 colonies were out (abscond) and (3) 1 colony died. The best colony condition based on its productivity was observed
on colony no. 23. The environment of Pagerwangi Dago area seemed unfavourable for the development of honeybee colonies in a big scale. An effort to plant bee forage plants must conducted intensively to maintain the sustainability of honeybee colony at this area. text
