Silicon dioxide is one of ceramic material that has good stability against corrosion. Silicon dioxide can be obtained either from mineral or chemical synthesis. Tetraethyl ortho silicate (TEOS) was used as source of silica. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> This research was conducted using three parameters such as concentration of precursor TEOS (0.1 M and 0.5 M), calcination temperature (400oC, 550oC, dan700oC) and concentration of HCl corrosive media (0.5 M and 1.5 M). Coating process conducted with a constant immersing time. Corrosion testing method was used by calculating the weight loss or corrosion coupon. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> SEM-EDS characterization of silica thin film formed on AISI 304 was carried out to see the morphology and the element attached to the surface. Parameters of 0.1 M precursor concentration and calcination temperature of 400oC produced a thin film (about 590 nm) that were uniformly and formed a little crack. Effect of calcination temperature of 700oC didn’t produce silica thin film but formed of complex oxide layer. Results showed that the corrosion rate measurement, there was no consistent effect of TEOS precursor concentration parameters. Effect of corrosion media concentration showed higher concentrations of HCl, the higher the corrosion rate obtained. text |
