Summary:The development of fuel quality which is nowadays being done, aims to improve fuel characteristics to fit the desire performance. The use of fuel additives is one of the easiest solutions to improve the quality of fuel where fuel quality is still not good. Fuel additive have 3 main functions, including: improving combustion process (combustion improver), cleaning function for the component like fuel and combustion chamber (detergent), and improving the lubricity properties on friction of piston system with cylinder (lubricity improver). In this research, additives performance were evaluated by test using the properties which made specially to find piston system and cylinder friction characteristics. Tests performed by several variations comparing four doses of this fuel additive, including: 0, 400, 800, and 1200 ppm. The test results showed that the addition of fuel additives can improve lubricity properties on fuel. The best results for all parameters are shown on the addition of 400 ppm of additive. The smallest friction reduction between piston‟s system and cylinder. Barrier reduced by 49,6% and wear reduced by 0,034%. Well cleanliness of the combustion chamber component. The higgest economic value.
