Summary:Indonesian industries have developed rapidly. One of them is wood processing industry. There are various product of this industry, for example handicrafts, paper, door, frame, furniture, pencil, brush, plywood, etc. In accordance with the rapid industrial growth, wood resources is decreasing, since it is classified as one of the nonrenewable natural resources. Therefore, the utilization of wood must be optimized in such a way that produce fewer waste. Generally, the waste will be burned directly, but <br /> <br /> <br /> it causes air pollution. <br /> <br /> <br /> This case also happened in PT X, a wood processing company, located in Bandung district. Their production wastes are sawdust and wood chip. These wastes are not reused yet, since their size is too large to be used in other industries. <br /> <br /> <br /> This research is conducted in order to help PT. X re-use their wastes by designing an equipment that is capable of processing sawdust and wood chip into wood powder. Wood powder is basic material for manufacturing briquettes, plywood, mosquito coil, etc. The design is based on the concepts of size-reduction machine that have been <br /> <br /> <br /> available on the market, which then will be selected using the Pugh concept selection. Basically, this method is sorting based on a plus and minus values of the various <br /> <br /> <br /> existing concepts, so we can obtain a draft instrument which can meet customer needs. Based on election result, we design a tool / machine that can reduce the size of <br /> <br /> <br /> sawdust and wood chip into smaller granules or known as wood powder.
