Summary: | Environmental issues related to global warming encourage people to develop a more environment-friendly technology. Indonesia is known as a rich country in natural resources, including bamboos. Bamboos grow quite abundant in Indonesia. Bamboo fiber has good characteristics in their applications on composite structures. Bamboo fiber composites have the potential to replace synthetic fiber composites which are categorized as quite expensive on the designing of complex structures. It also has the potential to replace wood on a simple structure while woods are made from trees which are the lungs of the world.
The research goal of this thesis is to know the characteristic of bamboo fibers based composites when given flexural load using three point bending method test and impact load using low velocity impact test. The tests are conducted on specimen using woven bamboo fibers in 0o dan 90o directions. Through these tests, the characteristic of bending and impact of bamboo fibers based composites will be obtained, and also indentified the tendency of failure modes that happen in each test.
The analysis is done from experiment results and analytical calculations. The results show that the flexural strength and modulus of flexural of bamboo fibers based composites are 27,19 MPa and 3,37 GPa respectively. From impact test, the result obtained is bamboo fibers based composites capable to withstand impact energy of 11,16 Joule. |
