Summary: | The development of high-speed data access technology can’t be avoided

accordingly with the needs and human demands which are never satisfied. This

development also encourages the development of another technologies such as

mixer technology which become the main research in the final project.

The mixer technology developed due to high frequency information signal

transmission will be translated into a low frequency signal to facilitate an easier

processing. Due to this reason, mixer circuit that can perform up conversion or

down conversion has become part of technologies that plays important role in the

development of high-speed data access technology.

Up converter will translate low frequency signals into high frequency signals

before it is sent to antenna so it can be transmitted. In this project, up converter

circuit is designed using IC LT5579 from Linear Technology. This IC is a double

balanced mixer and this type possess advantages that appropriate with application

requirements.

Input and output ports of this IC were not in a matched condition for expected

working frequency range. Therefore, additional matching impedance circuit will

be needed to overcome this issue. The design will be based on the reference plant

and will be analyzed using Smith Chart software and Ansoft Designer for circuit

simulation.

Up converter characterization will be a part of the project to determine circuit

performance according to the determined parameters. |
