Description
Summary:Zeolite is a natural mineral that is widely used in various fields such as agriculture, animal husbandry, fishery, industry and environmental conservation. Besides zeolite also has the potential to be used as Pozzolan material having a high silica content which is expected to react with Ca(OH)2 to improve the performance of concrete.

In this study, the influence of zeolite as a partial substitution of cement in concrete mixtures have been studied through comparison of test results of the chemical composition of zeolite, titration of Ca(OH)2 content in the solution of zeolite-Ca(OH) 2, the compressive strength of mortar and concrete, modulus of elasticity of concrete and physical properties consisting of concrete density, water absorption and volume of permeable pore space (voids). Natural zeolite mineral used is derived from Lebak, Banten province, Indonesia. Natural zeolite is first treated by using three of method i.e heated to a temperature of 250 oC, immersed in a solution of 0.8 M NaOH, and immersed in a solution of 2 M NH4Cl. In the mortar and concrete samples, the cement contents are substituted with 20% and 10% zeolite respectively.

Test results show that natural zeolite and zeolite treatment can be used as a mineral Admixture appropriate with ASTM C618 standard and also indicated can be used as a supplementary material or cement replacement in concrete mix.
