Description
Summary:Highway system has played an important role to our society. It connects cities and furthermore makes a good impact on the development of a city and stands as a multiplier effect to the economy. Therefore, the provider of the toll road is required to meet the Minimum Service Standards that is defined in government regulation. One aspect that must be met is from the side of transaction service. To meet these standards, a provider is currently implementing a highway improvement program, especially in term of transaction service through the use of electronic toll payment system or widely known as Electronic Toll Collection (ETC). This system was introduced for the modernization of conventional payment systems and to provide convenience for the company in term of cash handling and accelerate the handling and transaction time. This Final Project aims to create an electronic toll system design based on Wireless LAN (WLAN) technology and its implementation. This system consists of two applications, namely the client side and server side application. Client side application is implemented in the customer's mobile device, while the server side application is simulated on a computer as a roadside equipment. Both communicate via an intranet network with a wireless router as an Access Point (AP). The result of this final project is a software model that is implemented into a prototype to simulate the main features of the design that has been created. The prototype was built with the aim to determine the accuracy of the model. The results of conducted tests showed an average connection time measured for all parameters at 4.637 seconds. With these results, a client can perform transactions at a speed of 40 kmph from a distance of 75 meters before the toll gates and the transaction will already be completed before the client arrived at the toll gate. <br />
