Summary: | Turbulence Flow Casting Method (TFC) is a new welding method that combined casting and welding processes. This method has been successfully applied to repair surface defect at gray cast iron component. The result is a good quality joint with properties similar to the base metal. Experimental study of TFC method at steel casting chrome 25% will be conducted to approve the application of TFC method at carbon steel component.
The important point in TFC process is that the liquid metal flow must be turbulence. This experiment applied turbulence flow with Reynolds number 11150. Other parameters determine the success of joining process are preheat temperature and thickness of liquid metal penetration. The parameters are calculated by mean of physical properties of carbon steel at liquid condition. The other support parameters such as inclination angle of gating system and pouring time are according to parameters used in previous research.
The result of this experiment shows similar of microstructure and hardness among solid-liquid interface (mushy zone), weld pool and base metal. This experiment approves that TFC method can be applied at cast steel chrome 25%.
