Summary:The research located on pit 7 mulia coal mining PT. Arutmin Indonesia. The research background is mining activities by open pit mining which include as surface mining. The delve tool used for the coal material cover peeling process is an excavator which is a backhoe. There are 4 excavators used for excavate the cover material, one of them is Hitachi EX2500 and the others are Liebherr 994. The analysis of the excavator’s capabilities is done by calculating their productivities. To get the result, the next step is to do a literature study including tools specification, material powers, etc. After that is field study for collecting data consist of the cycle time of the excavator, working hours, standby hours and maintenance hours. To analyze the compatibility of the transportation system, cycle time data was being collected to get the match factor. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The components influencing the excavator productivity are the type of material, excavator condition; loading method, match factor, etc. The component showed the condition of the excavator are physical availability used, mechanical availability, use of availability which shows the use of the excavator when it is ready to use and effective utilization which shows the work time used over available time. The productivity components calculated are digging rate, instantaneous digging rate, and productivity. There is also some efforts to increase the productivity of the excavator with an application of loading method, spotting track method on line, the increasing of transportation system, bucket fill factor and tools management. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The result of productivity analysis is the productivity increment by drive loading method can increase the productivity by 15, 66%. The productivity increment by truck spotting method without maneuver can increase the productivity by 8, 83%. The research shows that the under truck excavator condition, so the maximum value of usage condition can be reached by increasing the number of trucks can increase the productivity by 3, 58%. By increasing the value of bucket fill factor from excavator up to 5% until the full capacity of the trucks were filled can increase productivity by 5, 76%. <br />
