T.M.A. Ari Samadhi, TOTONG Indonesia Theses INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/17448 Garment industry in Indonesia is growing rapidly, so competition among garment companies is increasingly stringent. Arrival of customer orders is fluctuating. To

be able to survive and continue to grow, the requirement for QCD (quality, cost and delivery) cannot be avoided anymore. Garment-making process is very long and the most critical views of the processing time is sewing which generally consists of a large number of operations. Therefore, it requires a balancing

method that can assign task to work station regularly and even workloads. Studies developing the relationship between simple assembly line balancing problem of

type 1 (SALBP-1) with fluctuating consumer demand has not existed yet, so this research develops a model of design of a single assembly line which produces even workloads by considering fluctuating demand. Model development is conducted on the objective function that is to minimize the total cost of the assembly line of the garment with constraints SALBP-1. Total cost consist of operating cost, cost of machinery, work station installation cost plus the trade-off between the cost of losses due to unmet demand and losses due to the existence of idle capacity. The objectives are to seek optimal capacity with minimal cost so that it can respond to fluctuating consumer demand. Limiting SALBP-1 in the model is useful for preparing the assembly line with a capacity obtained from the results of model calculations to obtain the balance of the workloads assembly. The results obtained show that the minimum total cost of the assembly line determines the optimal quantity, the optimal number of machines, the number of work stations and the optimal assignment task to a work station with a balanced workload. Sensitivity analysis shows that the objective function is sensitive to changes in parameter fluctuations in demand and changes in the cost of losses due to lost sales and are less sensitive to changes in production time per day. text
