STUDY OF AGGLOMERATION USING JATROPHA OIL ON THE BENEFICIATION OF FINE COALS
The processes of coal mining and coal cleaning result in the generation of fine coals which are usually discharged. These waste fine coals not only reduce the coal utilization, but also result in a detrimental effect on the environment. The waste itself, however, still can be used as a high energy s...

Jatropha oil was used since it has so high viscosity and density that it is expected to produce a large amount of agglomerate. The study was carried out to examine the effect of the rate of stirring, the time of stirring, the used amount of the oil, the distribution of particle size, and the use of additive, on agglomeration product. Yet when the agglomeration product reached the maximum point, the greater the rate of stirring, the lesser the %-yield of agglomerate. Whereas, the larger the used amount of oil, the bigger the %-yield of agglomerate and the lesser the ash content.
Generally, particle size of -150 +75 um produced the highest %-yield than others. The use of additive had an effect to increase agglomeration product especially for particle size of -75 um, but hardly had effect on the ash content. The best condition in obtaining the maximum agglomeration product was done by having the rate of stirring of 750 rpm for 5 minutes, 30% jatropha oil mixed, and coal particle size of -150 +75 um, which resulted the maximum yield of agglomerate of 85,9% and reduced the ash content up to 26,65%.
text |
