Description
Summary:One of the most recent standard for wireless technology is 802.11n. This standard is made to obtain MAC layer throughput over 100 Mb/s and increase channel efficiency. To reach this purpose, there are some mechanisms and recent technologies that is applied in this standard such as using Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) technology, frame aggregation mechanism, and Block ACK. MIMO technology is the method to increase throughput in PHY layer, while frame aggregation and Block ACK are methods which is applied on MAC layer. In this final project, the simulation is done by NS-2 to see the throughput of this 802.11n standard. By doing this simulation, the impact of the mechanisms which is applied in 802.11n standard such as frame aggregation and block ACK to the throughput could be discovered. From this simulation, it is discovered that the throughput was influenced by the frame aggregation mechanism. The channel efficiency is increasing up to 69% when the frame aggregation size is maximum. In addition, the throughput of UDP packet does not take effect by the using of block ACK. The size of the packets can also affect the throughput.
