Description
Summary:Municipal Solid Waste generation is increase every year. Conventional waste management method applied in mostly Indonesian cities face problems of relating to the limitation of landuse. Incineration with energy recovery (Waste to Energy, WTE) is one of waste reduction method that can solve the problems. Flue gas from the incinerator

utilized to generate steam for electricity.

Some of WTE’s are planned to built in Bandung. This study analyze the characteristics of Bandung MSW to find the combustion characteristics of the waste. Bandung MSW has more than 50% of moisture, so that it needed to pretreat the waste in such way so that the moisture contain lower than 40% of moisture and the lower heating value reaches 6285,3 kJ/kg. In this state the waste can be burn without additional fuel.

The study results predicts that the 800 kW WTE plant that will be built in Babakan consumes at least 4,8 ton/hour of MSW to generate 800 kW of electricity with MSW furnace temperature range between 900oC to 1200oC. This study also

results some operasional parameters and basic design of plant.
