In the other hand, NPP is known as energy source that is cheap and <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> environmental friendly. It is necessary to perform some scientific assessments and experiments on safety aspect of NPP. This scientific data on safety characteristic of NPP could be referred as main consideration by Nuclear Energy Regulatory Authority Of Republic Indonesia (BAPETEN) to assess Safety Analysis Report (SAR), particularly in issuing build and operation license of NPP in Indonesia. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> This experiment studies on natural convection heat transfer on APWR nuclear reactor containment vessel without equipped by air baffle. The purposes of this experiment are: analyzing characteristic of natural convection heat transfer and governing some empirical correlations. Based on similarity principle, a laboratory model of APWR containment vessel with downscale 1:40 had been made and <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> assembled. Heating process is conducted by supplying electrical power to nine electrical heaters and is varied from 260 watt to 2030 watt. Wall Surface temperature measurements on containment vessel performed for 13 different positions on containment wall surface. These are : 6 positions on vertical cylindrical sector and 8 positions on ellipsoidal sector,1 position used by vertical <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> cylindrical sector and ellipsoidal sector. Thermocouple type K is used to measure this temperature. This thermocouple is connected to amplifier system and data <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> acquisition system. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> This study observed that on the that same heat flux, temperature at higher position is higher than those at lower position, so local heat transfer coefficient is decrease. This phenomena happens on both vertical cylindrical sector and ellipsoidal sector. Then, at the same measurement position on vertical cylindrical sector and ellipsoidal sector, the temperature increases as the heat flux increases. Empirical correlation had been developed and proposed based on this experiment result. text
