The impact of these strategic activities, a decline in profit and sustainable growth rate had been shown since 2003. These facts become major issues/problems faced by Medco Energi, which relates to <br />

how to sustain and increase the competitive advantage of company in the energy business. According to business issues, the final project discusses the research on the <br />

Strategic Planning Medco Energi. There are three steps in the strategic planning which are 1) an external analysis of each industries of Medco Energy, 2) internal analysis of Medco Energi, and 3) the formulation of corporate strategy of Medco Energi as a multi-business <br />

company. The external analysis shows that Medco Energi faced more complex external environment before the year 2003. Internal analysis includes analysis of corporate strategy, the analysis of strengths / competencies and weaknesses of Medco Energi, and financial analysis of Medco Energi. Based on the external and internal analysis of external and internal, the key success factors and roots of problems at the corporate strategic level has been derived. Basically there are four recommendations of business solutions to the root of <br />

problems in Medco Energi, which are portfolio strategy, parenting strategy, directional strategy, and decision support system to enter new industry. The result of strategy formulation is then confirmed with Medco Energi strategy preferences. Decision support system for entering new industries was also developed using the Analytic Hierarchy Process in order to ensure that diversification will truly create shareholders value. <br />
