Description
Summary:Sample measurement technique that uses the properties of total internal reflection (total internal reflection, TIR) are currently being developed. Reflectance method has advantages over the method of transmission because if the material has a fairly high absorption, then the method of transmission can not be used anymore. One example of this method is a method of reflection ATR (attenuated total reflectance). ATR method uses the properties of total internal reflection to generate the evanescent wave. Beam is passed through a prism in a particular direction and the beam will experience at least once reflection on the inner surface of the prism which

in contact with the sample.

In the ATR experiment using right angle prism, the prism setup becomes very important because the error in the setup can provide a considerable influence on the outcome of the experiment. In this research report will be discussed how to setup right angle prism for ATR experiments and its influence when there is absorption in

the sample used.

Instruments used in these experiments consisted of a laser with a wavelength

as the light source, right angle prism with a refractive index

lock-in amplifier that serves as a data processor input which received by the detector.

While ink colors (red and blue) is used to determine the effect of an absorption.

For case studies of measurement with the ink color, it is known that red ink has a difference absorption with the blue ink, and when the ink has a concentration that is non-homogen then the absorption at each region of the sample will be different,

therefore the prism setup has a very important role here.
λ = 638,2nm n = 1,515 ,

When we are collecting data,

setup errors can cause errors in the data we obtain
