Perlite is a volcanic glass rock that has distinctive nature that is able to rapidly expand when heated rapidly at a temperature 850 – 900 oC. Heating process causes water trapped in the mineral structure will evaporate quickly and leave a cavity , causing the perlite expands. The use of perlite...

Heating process causes water trapped in the mineral structure will evaporate quickly and leave a cavity , causing the perlite expands. The use of perlite have been carried out in various fields one of which is as sorbent. The use of dyes in the field of textile and printing industry in particular has provided a wide range of both positive and negative impacts. At this time of environmental pollution caused by textile dyes becomes a problem. Modifications made to the research is utilizing perlite as a sorbent by first made into pellets with the addition of bentonite, a swelling clay mineral, as a binding agent with a particular composition. Pellet perlite - bentonite is then heated at a temperature of 850 oC. This study was conducted to obtain data on the physical properties and sorptioncapacity of pelets, using a reference sorbate methylene blue . text
