Synthesis Polyaniline with Quenching Method At Temperature 273 K and 78 K and its Characterization

Polyaniline (PANI) is a conductive polymer that is often studied because it has many advantages, such as ease to synthesize, good thermal stability, relatively cheap and widely applicable. Moreover, polyaniline also have a wide range of conductivity and can be tune up according to the dopant. Conduc...

Moreover, polyaniline also have a wide range of conductivity and can be tune up according to the dopant. Conductivity and structure of polyaniline is affected by several factors, such as type of dopant, synthesis history/methods, temperature and duration of the synthesis. Polyaniline is widely used in industry as the active material for gas sensors, solar cells, display technology (OLED) and battery. This research has been conducted on the synthesis of polyaniline at temperatures 273 K and 353 K with of variation duration. The synthesize methods that carried out in this study are : a) the regular method (at a temperature of 273 K), b) slow cooling method (temperature of 353 K up to room temperature), c) the rapid cooling method "quenching" (from the temperature of 353 K) using ice (temperatures up to 273 K) and d) using liquid nitrogen (temperature up to 78 K) . Polyaniline samples that have been synthesized from those method were characterized using Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). The highest conductivity obtained for each method (at 20 Hz) are follow : 0.46033 S/cm using regular method, 7.03×10-3 S/cm with slowly cooling method, 5.12×10-3S/cm with rapid cooling method "quenching" using ice and 6.41×10-3 S/cm using liquid nitrogen. FTIR and Raman spectrum shows that synthesize PANI have similarities in structure with the standard PANI . text
