Summary: | Geophyics method is a tool that can be used for natural resources exploration such as minerals, oil, and geothermal. Magnetotelluric (MT) method is a pasive geophysics method that can be used for earth structure mapping by using natural electric and magnetic field. The important parameter used in this method is resistivity which can be obtained from measuring electric and magnetic fields simultaneous. In the MT measuring method that carried out in the coast, there will be coast effect in its results. To anticipate the error in data interpretation, an analysis is needed to detect the coast <br />

effect. In this research, finite difference method using fortran language is used for 2-D forward modelling magnetotelluric. This modelling includes homogenous, layered earth model, 2 blocks earth model, 2 blocks layered earth model, and 2 blocks 2 layered earth model . From this modelling, apparent resistivity vs frequency curve, phase vs frequency curve, apparent resistivity vs distance curve, and phase vsdistance curve in TE mode and TM mode are obtained. frequency curve and phase va frequency curve, also performed 1-D inversion in both the response data using fortran language. From forward modelling results, it can be concluded that coast effect occured at 2 – 2.8 km depths. Whereas from inversion results, it can be concluded that TM mode generates better results than TE mode. |
