Description
Summary:The research is conducted in Babakanjawa Village which is included into

Majalengka District and Sumedang District, West Java, at 187000 m - 192000 m

dan 9236000 m - 9240000 m (UTM Zona 49S) with an area of approximately 20

km2. The purpose of this research is to know geological aspects on research area.

The research area is divided into three geomorphological units, these are

Fault Hill Unit, Hogback Hill Unit, and Intrusion Hill Unit. Geomorphic stage in

the geomorphological units is mature geomorphic stage.

The research are is divided into four lithostratigraphy units. The

lithostratigraphy of research area from the oldest to youngest consist of Mudstone

Unit of Middle Miocene (N12-N13), Sandstone-Mudstone Unit of Middle Miocene

(N14-N15), and Conglomerate Unit of Early Pleistocene. There is Andesite

intrusion that intruded the research area at Pleistocene.

Geological structures which is formed have orientations of Northwest-

Southeast and Northeast-Southwest that consist of strike and dip, Kadumalik Strikeslip

Fault, Palasari Thrust Fault, Kadumalik Thrust Fault, Cibantarbodas Thrust

Fault, Cilutung Thrust Fault, Kadu Thrust Fault, Palasari Anticline, Cilutung

Anticline, Babakanjawa Anticline, and Babakanjawa Sincline.

Mudstone unit was deposited in the middle Miocene epoch. This unit was

deposited at the bathyal zone. In the middle Miocene epoch (N14-N15), Sandstone

– Mudstone unit was deposited on the top of mudstone unit. Depositional

mechanism of this unit was gravity flow at the lower fan of submarine fan. At the

Pliocene – Pleistocene epoch, compressional deformation happened and causes

thrust faults, folds, and strike-slip fault. At that time also happened volcanic activity

that causes andesite intrusion. In the Early Pleistocene, the research area has

become surface and Conglomerate Unit was deposited through braided stream

fluvial system. Geological processes continue to occur such as erosion and

sedimentation.
