However, the density of the common bricks are quite high enough, making the effort, time, and cost required in construction projects become larger. Manufacture of light bricks is one of a great alternative to the problem. Fly ash is a waste material from coal burning. Its light weight and easy to get properties makes this potentially be a raw material for light brick manufactures. Bentonite clay mineral is also used as binder for fly ash in this research. Nine variations of fly ash and bentonite are created : 90%:10% ; 85%:15% ; 80%:20% ; 75%:25% ; 70%:30% ; 65%:35% ; 60%: 40% ; 55%:45% ; 50%:50%. A sample of light brick were printed in the size of 4cm x 4cm x 4cm and dried for 7 days. Furthemore, the burning was done with three variations of temperature : 900o C, 1000oC, and 1100o C for 2 hours. This research was conducted to study the effect of the physical, chemical, and mechanical properties that measure the density, resistance to acidic and alkaline, and mechanical strength. Characterization of sample is carried out by X-ray diffraction and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy). The results showed that the increase in the temperature and composition of fly ash could increase the density, decrease the percentage of water absorbtion, resistance to acidic and alkaline is getting better, and improve the mechanical strength of sample brick. text
