Description
Summary:A new ontology needs to be made to complement the change in business model due to a disruptive technology called the cloud computing. One of the most apparent benefits is in its ability to transform capital expenditure into a justifiable operational expenditure. The technology also has the potential to integrate a supply chain and create a better value network. Existing models are not able to map the benefits of the technology from the perspectives of multiple actors and see where exactly the benefits occur in the supply chain. The Network Business Model ontology was proposed to facilitate technology-driven business models such as those that adopt the cloud computing technology. The network business model is able to map four key components namely value, activity, actor, and benefit. It combines mapping processes of existing business models into one framework that is visually easy to follow.A case study was conducted to see the adaptability and rigidity of the model, as well as to see the benefits of cloud computing in today’s business environment. The case study was conducted in the Indonesia, where cloud computing is slowly penetrating the industry. It was found that cloud computing solution has been used in the logistics and supply chain domain. Rather than going head-to-head with the license-based model such as ERP, cloud-based solution integrates such systems and creates an end-to-end visibility across the supply chain, which includes procurement, distribution and inventory visibilities. Furthermore, these benefits are attainable at low-cost and can be implemented rapidly.
