The method of this research are geological surface mapping and laboratorium analysis to analyze the geomorphology, stratigraphy, geological structure, and geological history of the research area. At Eocene to Middle Oligocene Epoch, the Breccia Unit (Lemat Formation) was deposited in terrestrial alluvial fan environment as the oldest rock unit in the research area, which had an interfingering relation with Siltstone Unit (Benakat Formation) which was deposited in lacustrine environment. At Late Oligocene to Miocene Epoch, deposition occured in South Sumatra Basin. At Pliocene Epoch the Sandstone Unit (Kasai Formation) deposited in lacustrine environment as the youngest unit of the research area, unconformably overlay on the rock unit which had been deposited, because of the deformation which had begun at Middle Miocene Epoch. At Plio-Pleistocene Epoch the research area uplifted, folded with northwest-southeast axis trend, and faulted which was a reverse fault with northwest-southeast strike and made the Breccia Unit and Siltstone Unit cropped out, followed by the dextral strike slip faults trending northeast-southwest. Erosion occured and created the recent landform, which was divided into three geomorphological unit as follows: Bukit Suban Synclinal Ridge Unit with northeast-southwest elongated ridge, Puntikayu Folded Valley Unit in the northern part of the research area, and Bukit Suban Homoclinal Denudational Plain Unit in the southern part of the research area. The erosional product mainly deposited as alluvial along Puntikayu River. Recent morphology showed the young to mature stage of geomorphological stage. text |
