Summary: | Climate change is a multidimensional and complex challenges which is faced by mankind in the 21st century. It will lead to a new climate order. The study results of scientists who are members of the Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) predicts that unconstant climate changing will continue to happen in 150 years next. Urban coastal areas have a high risk level with threaten by sea level rise, tropical storms, and indirect impacts such as health problems, as found by IESR research on the north coast of Jakarta. Looking at some of the theories regarding influence’s urban environment settings on urban climate formation, it can be put forward the idea that urban design is in accordance with the nature and future climate conditions can minimize the impact of climate change on urban areas. The purpose of this study is to develop design principles of coastal urban areas in order to adapting climate change impacts on coastal areas of Jakarta. To achieve these objectives, set targets of study include: (1) identify aspects that need to be considered and components that need to be regulated in the adaptive design of coastal areas to the impacts of climate change, (2) identify the characteristics of Jakarta coastal area, in each component should be regulated and develop appropriate adaptation strategies, (3) formulate design principles Jakarta coastal urban areas in adapting impacts of climate change, (4) illustrates the application of design principles of adaptive coastal urban areas. This research was conducted by Research and Development approach, as a process of building a model (formula) which is valid / applicable for a condition / phenomenon. This approach was chosen because according to the study objectives, namely to build a model (principle) the design of coastal urban areas of legitimate / valid for the conditions established by the phenomenon of climate change. Design principle which was formulated from this study are the principles that serve as a guidance for designing urban coastal area of Jakarta in adapting climate change impacts. |
