Description
Summary:Triaxial test is one of the test in rock mechanic to obtain mechanical properties of rock such as strength envelope, shear strength, cohesion, and internal friction angle. In conventional triaxial test, several rock samples needed to be given different confining pressures. In order to increase the efficiency of expense and time by the test, multistage triaxial test emerge. This test make possible to use one rock sample to be given different confining pressure. Several bachelors from Mining Engineering Department ITB, Boediman (2007), Prassetyo (2008), Vananda (2008), Rachmawan (2008), and Anindita (2008), had been performed this kind of research by using of load control for determining termination point. Afterwards Sanusi (2009), Setiawan (2009), and Saragih (2009) performed this kind of research by using of ultrasonic velocity

reading for determining termination point. However triaxial test in their research done in normal loading rate. This researh was also using ultrasonic velocity

reading for determining termination point, but the loading rate given was a slow loading rate. This was by mean to obtained a better ultrasonic velocity reading.

Mohr – Coulomb, Bieniawski I adn II, and Hoek – Brown failure criterias used for evaluating multistage triaxial test result with ultrasonic velocity reading

for determining termination point. This research showed that ultrasonic behaviour reading can be use for

determining termination point of multistage triaxial test. And multistage triaxial test can be use to replace conventional triaxial teat.
