Summary:One of the strategies of energy efficiency in tropical building is the application of natural ventilation. In this thesis research, the redesign of facade and partition is done at six-stories office building located ± 3 km from the coast of Semarang of which the long side of the building faces east-west. The application of natural ventilation on the building design requires a building skin design and special ventilation system for façade cooling, floor cooling, and space cooling. <br /> <br /> <br /> This thesis submitting building system ventilation design by applying the concept of wind scoop or the use of wind catchers that makes use of the sea as well as land breeze, also apply the sun shadow maker to reduce the solar heat gain during the daytimes on the east and west side of the building. This research conducted with <br /> <br /> <br /> three dimensional model simulation methods with wind tunnel simulator. <br /> <br /> <br /> In this thesis several ventilation designs were made, namely: <br /> <br /> <br /> - double skin on east and west building side in the form vertical fin and perforated panel for façade cooling, <br /> <br /> <br /> - jalousie adaptive on all building sides for cooling the floor of the building, <br /> <br /> <br /> - casement window and jalousie type on the east and west also partition room in the upper and lower openings for space cooling, <br /> <br /> <br /> - wind scoop for air suction from inside the building <br /> <br /> <br /> The result of this thesis shown those some ventilation design could to reduce the solar heat gain during the daytimes on the east and west side of the building <br /> <br /> <br /> and also give the day lighting into the room. <br /> <br /> <br /> Also wind scoop design for space cooling during the daytimes. That application of system ventilation as according to the condition of the office building in coastal area which is has a strong air flow. <br /> <br /> <br /> The application of this building's skin redesign furthermore needs extended researches that connected with details of the design and the capacity system <br /> <br /> <br /> which are applied.
