Although . applications of horizontal well technology has been classified as a new and expensive but it has been proved more effective and efficient in producing oil. However the production rate strategy to obtain optimal results has not accepted full attention. It has been resulted from inability to identify the influence of forces that works in reservoir related to flow mechanism. Special for oil reservoir with bottom water drive, the movement of water- oil contact in reservoir is affected by interaction of the working forces, such as: viscous force and gravity force. Both forces have significant influence to the stability of water-oil contact movement, production performance and oil recovery. The objective of the present study is to construct a physical model in laboratory by scaling down all parameters using dimensional analysis. The application this of study was conducted using similarity concept between the model and the prototype represented. In order to be able to examine more cases, a numerical model has been built as well using Computer Modelling Groups (CMG) software being match with the results produced by the physical model. Results of physical model showed that the water breakthrough and recovery factor increase as the ratio of gravity to viscous forces (R) increases, although it is seemly insignificant. Also the water-oil interface below the horizontal borehole moved more uniform at a lower rate as inferred from the water cut data. text |
