Description
Summary:Floods can occur if water flow exceed the capacity of the river to hold water. One of the efforts made to prevent flooding is to procure the forest in case to reduce the amount of river water discharge. Procurement can be done through the process of land conversion that requires a certain cost. The need of the study is to obtain the optimum result of decreament of the discharge and the conversion cost required.

Some scenaios made based on the criteria of water controlling components of a watershed and the factor of cost. Then simulation done to calculate the discharge in result from the land cover scenarios using a spatial hydrologic model, and estimation of land conversion cost were made. Then this two components from each scenarios were analyzed to obtain the optimization.

The result is, scenarios with higher converion cost not always give the higher reduction to the water discharge and vice versa. Each scenario has a various discharge reduction-cost ratio. This value can be used as an indicator to determine the most opmal scenario to reduce the river water discharge with certain cost.
