Description
Summary:Medan as one of the lagerts cities in Indonesia requires an adequate transportation system. At the present time, a new international airport at Kuala Namu being constructed. As part of Medan International Airport construction at Kuala Namu, in order to support transportation system, PT. KA (National Train Company) builds a railway track from Medan Railway Station to the international airport. In order to support transit activities, integration is required. Transit oriented development (TOD) is one of the concept that supports this integration. TOD concept in micro scale can be achieved by integrating sites, functions, and transportation system. The key of this integration is by optimizing circulation. This circulation consists of two elements which are movement and connector. The area of the existing Medan Railway Station is inconvenient to be accessed by pedestrians, because it is spatially fragmented by the surrounding sites. It makes the activity of transit is not working well. Therefore, a good planning and design for this railway station building which integrates the adjacent sites, new functions, and the local transportation system is inevitable. The integration of sites, functions and transportation system may drive the movement in and pass through building, so the railway station could revives the transit and public activities. This thesis describes the implementation of TOD concept by optimizing ciculation on the design of a railway station building in order to accommodate transit and public activities.
