Description
Summary:West Madura Offshore Block located in North East Java Sea Basin and it is a hydrocarbon producing field which is operated by PT Pertamina Hulu Energi WMO.

This study aims to determine the characteristics of source rock and the correlation between source rock and oil contained in the study area. The data used in this study came from three wells for source rock samples of Ngimbang and Kujung Unit II Formation and two wells for oil samples. Source rock evaluation using a Total Organic Carbon (TOC) data, the results of Rock-Eval pyrolysis, and vitrinite reflectance while correlation of source rock and oil using biomarker data were normal alkane, isoprenoid, sterane, and terpane.

Based on the result of source rock evaluation, Ngimbang Formation more potential as a source rock with TOC content fair to good, kerogen types II and III, in the immature stage to early mature. Based on the analysis of biomarkers, Ngimbang Formation consists of two groups: group 1 shows the origin of the organic material from mixed source with dominance of higher plants in the oxic condition depositional environment and group 2 shows the origin of the organic material from mixed source with dominance of algae/bacteria in the anoxic-suboxic condition depositional environment. Kujung Unit II Formation in the study area shows the origin of the organic material from mixed source with dominance of higher plants in the oxic condition depositional environment. The correlation result shows that the oil in the study area has a positive correlation with Ngimbang Formation group 1.
