THE COMPARISON OF WALKING AND RUNNING MODELS APPLIED TO ITB CAMPUS

This final assignment will discuss a phenomenon that is encountered daily, walking versus running. Based on this phenomenon, one is to simplify and investigate existing walking and running models while implementing them to ITB campus. These models will allow one to make a few decisions, one of which...

Based on this phenomenon, one is to simplify and investigate existing walking and running models while implementing them to ITB campus. These models will allow one to make a few decisions, one of which is to decide whether to enter the campus through Ganesha gate (on Jl. Ganesha) or Sabuga gate (on Jl. Tamansari); afterwards, whether one should walk or run. The decision can be made by choosing the path that is most efficient based on time and work. The model that one creates is based on equations that conclude to the equations of works applied to ITB campus. Data that is to be collected are weight of test subjects, route that can be chosen, time taken to walk or run across the routes, length of routes, and angle of the test subject’s leg when walking or running. Moreover, the differentiation of each equation would lead to the equation of critical velocity, which is the maximum velocity of test subject when walking. Based on equations from existing models, one is able to determine the work needed to walk or run through alternative routes. This experiment concludes that running requires more work than walking and the most effective route in ITB campus is from Sabuga gate.... text
