TRANSPORT SIMULATION OF MARINE DEBRIS IN THE BALI STRAIT

Numerical model is one of the commonly used methods to model the sea condition. This method was used to analyze the physical condition in Bali Strait as well to study the marine debris movement around Kuta Beach in between December 2011 to February 2012.The simulation used to study the case was hydr...

Particle trajectory model was used to simulate the marine debris

movement in Bali Strait with the u and v velocity for the generating factor based on hydrodynamic simulation result in Bali Strait. The particle trajectory simulation was done with three scenarios to see the amount of impact of south-west monsoon towards the amount of time particle trajectory movement from the point’s source to Kuta Beach region. First scenario was to test the validity of the model particle trajectory. The second scenario was done on December 1st to 8th 2011 to observe spread of trajectory particle in the beginning of south-west monsoon , while the three scenario was done on the February 1st to 8th 2012 to observe spread of trajectory particle in the peak of south-west monsoon. There are 5 trajectory particle points source

which are spread in Jembrana, Tabanan, and Badung. From those 5 points were released as many as 10 particles in each one of the points in which will be simulated later to see the movement pattern of those particles.

The result shows that marine debris in Kuta Beach, Bali came from the regions within Bali itself. Those particles need 2-7 days in time to reach the Kuta Beach depending on the distance of the point source to Kuta Beach, Bali. text
