Parongpong district in West Bandung Municipality has developed into a tourism and residential area. Meanwhile, recent research shows that this region has the potential earthquake hazards caused by the Lembang fault which has a length of 22 km. It is therefore very important to know the level of public understanding of the potential dangers of earthquakes in Parongpong due Lembang fault. This study also examines the factors that can increase local people's understanding as part of mitigation. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> This study shows that information about the Lembang Fault and earthquake hazards in Parongpong District still limited to researchers. While government officials and local community organization associated with natural disasters have only a little understanding, as well as society at large do not yet understand the potential hazards due to earthquakes Lembang fault. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The existence of local society organizations and leaders who already have experience in the rescue of emergency situations of natural disasters is useful as a government partner in the mitigation process. By empowering the local community organizations is expected to accelerate the process of community preparedness in the face of disaster. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Public understanding of the earthquake hazard can be improved by incorporating integrated school curriculum, empowering local organizations and government supports in the form of regulations, priorities and commitment.
