Molluscan paleontological research in
Indonesia had been carried out by many researchers from another country since nineteenth century. Indonesian young researchers have been studied molluscan paleontology since in the middle of 1990 for their academic reports or thesis.
The earlier research had proposed many new species, biostratigraphy and paleoecology of the molluscs. Unfortunately, the biostratigraphy units are still in
doubt especially for the age and stratigraphic position. The reason is due to the species guides from Turritella were still not clear, because the parameters for identification of Java\'s Turritellidae is not established yet.
The doubtsness is also for the age, because the method for age determination is not clear yet. Percentages of recent mollusc were use in percent method are less
accurate. It was due to the existency of modern mollusk are still not known precisly, so it is difficult to understand how many modern molusc contain in the rocks unit.
Consideration to this reason, the study of the biostratigraphic or biozonation is need to be done in order to understand their value in stratigraphy. The first step is to develop Turritellidae biozone, and later on as the base to develop mollusc biostratigraphy. The construction of the molluscs biozone was not ignoring the previous biostratigraphic units, but to support the values of fossil mollusc particularly in Java and Indonesia in general. Previous molluscan
biostratigraphic units are clearly has perform benefits in explaining the stratigraphic position of the type locality of molluscan stratigraphic units, but the
Development of study on type locality indicates a lack of conformity in stratigraphic position, and this is the reason for this study.
text
