Description
Summary:Shale gas is a natural gas trapped in fine-grained sedimentary rock (shale formation) that plays a role as source rock in the oil and gas industry. Along with the technology development, gas in shale formation now has a potential to be produced in large quantities. Ombilin Basin has a potential source rock as a producer of hydrocarbons. However, shale potential as a shale gas in the shale play system is still unknown. <br /> Evaluation of shale gas potential was performed at Sangkarewang Formations intervals. Evaluation begins with a review of biostratigraphy reports, a review of the description of the conventional core and the side wall core and a review of the source rock geochemical analysis. From the analysis, it is interpreted that the object of the research is on lacustrine area. In the next stage, petrophysical interpretation and geochemical analysis were performed. Petrophysical interpretation was conducted on the shale volume calculation, total porosity calculation, TOC calculation, and calculation of water saturation. While the geochemical analysis was performed to review the results of laboratory analysis to determine the level of richness and maturity of rocks. Calculation of TOC values of log data is done by applying the Passey method by using sonic log and resistivity logs. Application of the Passey method conducted to determine the TOC values are continously in a well with or without the TOC analysis from the laboratory. TOC calculation results of log data and then calibrated with TOC values obtained from the geochemical laboratory analysis. The results of petrophysical analysis on well and will spread throughout the study area using geostatistical methods in seismic data. Modeling done on shale volume, richness of rock, porosity and water saturation. From the model, showed that the potential of Sangkarewang Formation to be producing shale gas in the non- conventional energy by 10,33 TCF.
